Become a Senior Business Actuary - Life Insurance at Athora on an open-ended contract in Brussels.

In the 'Insurance' division, whose mission is to ensure the profitability, development, and sales of our products and services, as well as the management of our life insurance portfolio, the 'Business Change and Monitoring' department steers and guides the Life Insurance business through numerical analyses, technically supports the business by conducting the necessary technical and actuarial studies, and analyses business projects with an IT impact.

This team is made up of about ten colleagues who are just waiting for you!

Your responsibilities

As a Senior Business Actuary, you are responsible for managing the profitability of the life insurance portfolio and optimising the results at the business level.

So you are responsible, among other things, for:

  • Managing the profitability of our products while optimising current models, i.e.:
    • Analysing and steering the profitability trend across our entire portfolio.
    • Developing missing profitability models in collaboration with finance teams and the Group.
    • Suggesting business actions that improve profitability, reinsurance impacts, results, and monitor them.
  • Managing the reinsurance of protection or financial types:
    • Defining the forecasts and budgets related to the various reinsurance.
    • Tracking and analysing the performance of the portfolio related to these reinsurance structures.
    • Managing the various reinsurance renewals.
    • Contributing o and challenge various structures for optimising results, especially in the context of reinsurance.
  • Leading the financial closing cycle from a business perspective:
    • Managing business closures within the team.
    • Producing the closing reports related to reinsurance.
    • Contributing to the stabilisation of the necessary information for closure, such as:
      • Managing and verifying the reserves to be established and carrying out the various calculations to meet commitments;
      • Providing technical support to managers through actuarial calculations; etc.
  • Being the technical business advisor:
    • Understanding and interpreting the company's results at the Begaap, IFRS, and Solvency II levels, namely:
      • Mastering the impact of business dimensions (especially Begaap).
      • Connecting with the teams that produce the Begaap, IFRS, and Solvency II results.
      • Suggesting business actions to improve these results.
  • Establishing and maintaining the necessary models for the entire team's activity (budgets, forecasts, reinsurance, provisioning...) and identifying and implementing the necessary optimisations.
  • Assist in defining budgets, objectives, and in technical analyses related to the portfolio's evolution.

Your profile

  • You have a master's degree, preferably in mathematics, actuarial science, or economics.
  • You can demonstrate initial experience in a similar role, ideally in the Life Insurance sector, reinsurance, or banking investment products.
  • You have an excellent command of either French or Dutch with a good grasp of the other national language and you can work in English.
  • You can juggle with Excel (VBA) and are comfortable with PowerPoint.
  • You have proficiency in at least one database query language (SAS, SQL); knowledge of Power BI or Power Query is an advantage.
  • You have the analytical and abstract mindset needed to understand the results/figures and to make recommendations.
  • You are able to present your analyses in an effective, simple, and clear manner to all types of stakeholders, including Senior Management.
  • You can work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • You are independent and take initiative.
  • You certainly have team spirit.
